Getting to Palencia is easy. Here’s how!
By road:
Palencia has motorway connections to all its neighbouring provinces.
- From Madrid, take the A-6 to Tordesillas. Then continue on the A-62 / E-80 towards Valladolid. Or take the A-1 to Aranda de Duero and then the CL-619 to Magaz de Pisuerga and the CL-610 towards Palencia.
- From Burgos, take the A-62 / E-80 towards Valladolid – Palencia.
From Santander, it is roughly 200 kilometres on the A-67. - From León, take the A-231 towards Burgos to Sahagún de Campos and then the CL-613 towards Palencia.
By train:
There are several daily rail connections between Palencia and Madrid, Santander, Burgos, Valladolid and León.
Plus, ALVIA trains stop in Palencia daily on the way to and from Galicia, Asturias, País Vasco, Barcelona and Alicante, among others.

And now that I’m in Palencia, how do I get to the pilgrimage?
To get to the heart of the festivities, you’ll have to walk through the bustling, decorated streets of the neighbourhood around the Christ. So visitors and residents alike can enjoy the celebration, the streets are closed to traffic.
In just over a kilometre, walking there directly, you’ll find yourself at the imposing structure of the Otero Christ atop the knoll.
These are the ways to get to the nearest access point, Av. Derechos Humanos, 1.
How far can I go by car?
If you want to drive to the pilgrimage, remember that traffic is cut from the roundabout at Avenida Derechos Humanos, Calle Santo Toribio and Paseo del Otero.
As there are so many people in the area these days, we recommend parking well before you reach this point, in any of the city’s public parking areas. The closest ones are at Jardinillos, Plaza de los Juzgados and Estación Pequeña.
How far can I go by taxi?
So you won’t have to worry about parking, take a taxi to the roundabout at Avenida Derechos Humanos, Calle Santo Toribio and Paseo del Otero.

How far can I go by city bus?
Bus line 2, which connects Camino de la Miranda to the University Campus crossing the main avenues of the city centre, will leave you by Paseo del Otero.
Bus line 5, which connects the University Hospital to the Otero Christ neighbourhood, will also help you get as close as possible to the pilgrimage.

Otero Christ
Victorio Macho designed a sculpture that has become a symbol of the city. In 1931, the same year the Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro was inaugurated, Palencia also completed what would from then on be the tallest Christ in Spain.
